Sweden is one of the five Nordic countries, along with Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Iceland. It is also the home of the Nobel Prize. In 2021, Sweden ranked second in the world, and first in the EU, for Innovation according to the Global Innovation Index.

In many world rankings, Swedish education is also in the top positions. Although it has only 10 million people, this country has many universities with top quality training in the world, such as: Lund University top 87 in the world, Uppsala University top 124 in the world with 8 Nobel Prizes, SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) top 3 in the world in training in Agriculture and Forestry. In total, Sweden has 12 schools in the list of the best universities in the world, according to Times Higher Education.

Freedom comes with responsibility

The majority of student learning occurs outside of class, through independent study or group work. Group activities are a priority as they encourage students to learn from others and learn to problem solve while working in groups. Working in diverse groups also helps students develop decision-making, time management, and social skills. Students are responsible for their own learning.

Most of the time students will learn by themselves or work in groups, instead of just sitting and absorbing knowledge in classes.

Critical thinking

The teaching method at Swedish universities encourages critical thinking. Students discuss what they learn and may even question taken-for-granted views. Debates with peers and lecturers are accepted and encouraged. Students’ opinions are heard beyond the classroom, and can be heard in many ways, including changes to the content and structure of the curriculum or changes to the learning environment.

Equality

Sweden is recognized as one of the most equal countries in the world. Equality is therefore at the core of the country’s higher education system. Students from all walks of life are welcome, regardless of gender, religion, nationality, or social status. There is no maximum age for university entry, creating lifelong higher education opportunities for everyone.

Students are encouraged to discuss and even debate with instructors.

Speaking English

Sweden is consistently ranked as the top country in the world for non-native English speakers. You can easily travel and function throughout the country without knowing the local language. Students can speak English everywhere, from the classroom to everyday life.

Opportunity to study in Sweden

Sweden currently offers more than 100 bachelor's and 1,000 master's programs taught in English. With preferential policies, international students are allowed to work part-time outside of school hours and stay for 12 months after graduation to find a job.

Easy application process. Students apply for admission through a single application portal for the whole of Sweden (Universityadmissions.se). With one application, students are allowed to arrange their choices to 8 for bachelor's programs or 4 for master's programs to increase their chances.

There are currently more than 50 types of scholarships, including government scholarships, Erasmus Mundus scholarships, scholarships provided by universities and scholarships from other organizations to help cover the costs of international students.

The number of international students coming to Sweden to study has been increasing in recent years thanks to many preferential policies.

On Sunday, October 17, the Swedish Alumni Network in Vietnam organized an event to learn about studying in Sweden "Study in Sweden 2021: A place for your next journey".

At the event, parents and students will learn about Sweden, the education system, study opportunities for bachelor's, master's, doctoral degrees and short-term programs. In addition, information about the application process, submission of documents and scholarship submission will also be provided. This is an opportunity for parents and students to connect with international students currently living and studying in Sweden, along with leading educational institutions and study abroad consulting centers.
