Germany increases financial proof requirements for international students

International students coming to Germany need to have more than 12,800 USD in their account (about 327 million VND), since the beginning of September, an increase of 6% compared to present.

The information was updated on the website of the German Ministry of Education and Research on July 31. This is the minimum cost for an international student to live in Germany for one year.

Some experts say the change is necessary given the current economic climate. With the cost of living rising, international students need to have enough money to buy food, cover rent, transportation and other essential needs. Therefore, the new regulation is aimed at ensuring they have financial stability during their studies.

Germany's new financial proof level is on par with Australia (over 19,500 USD), Canada (14,930 USD), and higher than some European countries such as Ireland (10,680 USD) and France (7,980 USD)...

Germany has recorded a record number of international students - about 458,000 people, by the end of the 2022-2023 academic year. Of these, the number of Vietnamese students is nearly 7,400, an increase of about 30% compared to before Covid-19.

The reason is said to be that this country has a tuition-free policy, allowing international students to stay and work after graduation for up to 18 months. Recently, the government continued to relax a series of regulations for international students, in the context of a shortage of skilled workers.

For example, the age limit for foreign workers is 35, while previously it was 25. They can also stay in Germany for up to 9 months, instead of 6 months, to find a school or an internship. For university students, the working time is 140 days a year, 20 days more than before March...
