Cloud backup, data backup, instant restore, and flexible synchronization (HBS-QUDEDUP)

HBS 3 consolidates backup, restore and synchronization functions into a single QTS application so that you can easily transfer your data to local, remote and cloud storage space as data storage. Comprehensive data and disaster recovery plan. With QuDedup technology that copies data at source, the efficiency of backing up multiple versions to target storage is greatly improved while optimizing storage usage.

Develop your 3-2-1 backup and recovery strategy

No backup plan is perfect, but Backup 3-2-1 is a good start. Keep 3 copies of important files, keep files on at least 2 types of storage media, and store 1 copy off site.

Backup: HBS 3 helps you back up data from QNAP NAS to some local, remote and cloud storage space. Backing up multiple versions allows you to easily keep track of changes.

Recover: If data loss occurs, you can recover files from local / remote cloud storage. This provides a comprehensive disaster recovery plan to instantly recover important files.

Synchronization: Your files can be synchronized one way with local NAS, external devices, cloud services or remote servers using RTRR, Rsync, FTP, CIFS / SMB. Two-way sync can also be used for files between your QNAP NAS and remote NAS / cloud service.

QuDedup significantly reduces backup and recovery time
HBS 3 has QuDedup technology to copy backup data at source. With overall data size reduced, bandwidth requirements and backup times are also saved. With QuDedup, you can reduce RPO (Restore Point Target) and RTO (Recovery Time Target) for your backup package. When tested with a virtualization solution, QuDedup reduced backup size by 75%.

Cross-device access from NAS, computers and the cloud
After backing up extracted data to QNAP NAS, remote servers, and cloud storage, you can not only restore .qdff files and view them on your computer, you can also install the Tools extract QuDedup on your cloud storage to see backups and extracted files - greatly reduce cloud data transfer costs. Deleted files can also be viewed and opened in File Station.

Backup multiple versions even faster
HBS 3 supports backing up multiple versions to remote cloud storage and NAS and allows you to set the number of backup versions to retain and their retention time. The more versions you back up, reduce the risk of data loss.

Fast cloud backup with TCP BBR support
HBS 3 supports TCP BBR algorithm so congestion control can significantly improve out-of-stream data transfer rate. Businesses using hybrid storage solutions can back up or synchronize their NAS-based files to the cloud with higher transfer speeds, making offsite backups more efficient.

Friendly interface with streamlined workflow
HBS 3 provides an easy to use interface for you to easily view job status and schedules. You can easily set up backup / restore and synchronize tasks and manage storage space.

See job status at a glance
Quickly see status of all jobs, connected servers and cloud storage. Alarm log allows you to quickly check alerts so you take action promptly.

Note: Currently, QuDedup only supports QNAP NAS models with x86-based Intel or AMD processors.

The smaller the file size, the faster the backup: QuDedup
When it comes to backup tasks, IT administrators face everyday challenges for backup jobs: too much data, not enough time, and not enough storage space. QNAP’s QuDedup technology empowers backup tasks with source-based deduplication to optimize file sizes for greater time and storage savings.

The more data to back up, more time is required. This can lead to backup jobs taking multiple hours to complete - sometimes requiring overnight processing - without factoring in the multiple backup versions required for disaster recovery purposes. QNAP now introduces HBS 3, which adds support for QuDedup technology that eliminates redundant data at the source and then backs up the deduplicated data. It helps ease your worries about insufficient time and storage, and reinforces your backup plan with greater efficiency and reliability.

QuDedup eases backup nightmares and strengthens your 3-2-1 backup strategy
Keeping just one backup version may not be enough to safeguard your data. To increase your chances of recovering lost or corrupted data, you should follow the 3-2-1 rule: Keep 3 copies of important files, keep the files on at least 2 types of storage media, and store 1 copy off-site. Check how HBS can help you realize a comprehensive 3-2-1 backup plan.

First backup – save storage
QuDedup technology deduplicates backup data at the source to reduce the backup data size by up to 75%. The initial deduplication process may take some time, but the deduplicated data makes future backup tasks much faster!

Second backup – save time
Follow the 3-2-1 backup rule, and save the second backup of your files to a remote site. As the backup size is only 25% of the original size, you save time on running backup tasks - allowing you to copy this backup to multiple locations and accelerate multi-version backups for greater protection against data loss.

Cloud backup – save time and storage
HBS 3 fulfills your needs for hybrid cloud backup. It supports the TCP BBR algorithm for congestion control to greatly improve extranet data transfer speeds. Your Internet just got faster so backing up NAS-based files to the cloud becomes much more efficient.

Easily preview and restore deduplicated files with QuDedup Extract Tool
Instantly restore backed-up QuDedup files in remote or cloud storage locations with the QuDedup Extract Tool or File Station for greater management efficiency.

Take TB-level files on-the-go with QDFF file compression
QuDedup supports block-level deduplication and data encryption on client devices. The deduplicated data is packaged and converted into an unpreviewable QNAP deduplication file format (.QDFF) and stored in the default QDFF folder. Deduplicated QDFF files are incredibly small and can be easily saved on portable-storage devices. (For example, a 10 TB file can be compressed into 1 TB - 2.5 TB.)

Restore QDFF files across platforms with the QuDedup Extract Tool
You can install the QuDedup Extract Tool on your computer (Windows®, Mac® or Linux®/Ubuntu®) and restore QDFF files downloaded from a remote NAS or cloud to their normal state. You can also preview deduplicated QDFF files and restore them with File Station. Cross-platform connectivity across NAS devices, computers, and the cloud makes file restoration more convenient.

Portable, visible, and flexible to restore
The QuDedup Extract Tool allows you to preview the differences in each version of a deduplicated file. You can select single or multiple files and folders to restore. You can also install the QuDedup Extract Tool on cloud storage for previewing backed-up and deduplicated files - greatly reducing cloud data transfer costs.

Note: Your experience of HBS 3 with QuDedup may vary due to your file types, storage environment, and network environment.
Tip 1: QuDedup is not recommended for use with video files. In this case, it is recommended to use snapshots with Snapshot Replica to maximize backup efficiency. Learn more » Snapshot

Tip 2: QuDedup is especially useful and provides significant storage savings for datasets containing highly-repetitive data (such as virtual machines and ISO images).
