There are no restaurants around the area where the ginkgo trees live, and the nearest convenience store is 1.5 km away. However, the beauty of the tree still attracts tourists flocking to it every fall.

An autumn photo of a ginkgo tree two weeks ago by travel photographer Seo Young Gil received more than 50,000 likes when posted on Instagram. "Beautiful", "spectacular" and "gorgeous" are the words people use most when describing this ginkgo tree.

Chae Beom-sik, chief of Bangye-ri village, told the Korea JoonAng Daily in 2021 that an average of 4,000 visitors visited the tree every day, whether weekdays or weekends.

According to Visit Korea, the website of the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the tree is 33 m high, 37.5 m wide and has been protected by the government as a natural monument since January 31, 1965.

The website adds that according to legend, the tree was planted by Seongju Lee, who stopped here to drink water. After leaving, Lee left his staff stuck straight into the ground. The stick later evolved into today's ginkgo tree. Another legend says that there was a white snake living in the tree, which is why it grew as strong and large as it is today.

"Local farmers believe there will be a good harvest if the entire tree turns yellow in the fall," Visit Korea wrote.
